Domaine Paul Pillot, Chassagne-Montrachet Rouge Vieilles Vignes 2020

Flag of France

Thierry and Chrystelle Pillot are the sibling team behind the wines of Domaine Paul Pillot and regarded as two of the most exciting winemakers in Burgundy. The estate was established by their great grandfather, Jean-Baptiste Pillot, in 1900 but it is down to the hard work of Thierry and Chrystelle that it is now one of the stars of Chassagne-Montrachet, with the vineyards now fully converted to organic winemaking. Chassagne-Montrachet Rouge Vieilles Vignes 2020 is made from 100% Pinot Noir, taken from the older vines in the vineyard (50+ years old). 2020 was a hot vintage for Burgundy and that really shows in the exceptional fruit concentration (but in no way heavy) found in this wine. Notes of strawberry, raspberry, cassis, earth and mushroom moves to a silky, velvety palate with more savoury-spicy undertones. Drinking well now but will continue to evolve over the next 10 years.
